Track Reversal To Spice Up Mondello Park Car Race Weekend

Track reversal to spice up Mondello Park Car Race weekend.

The second Mondello Park Car Race event of the 2018 season will have some added spice as drivers tackle the National Track in reverse for the first time in more than twenty years. The Motor Enthusiasts Club will be in charge for the two day event which takes place this coming Saturday and Sunday, June 9th and 10th.

The anti-clockwise version of the Mondello Park National track was last used in the nineties so this weekend’s event will be a new challenge for almost all of the drivers taking part. The reverse layout, surprisingly, is a completely different proposition to the standard layout, so with the playing field levelled some new faces could be seen at the front.

The two days of racing will have very different line-ups as only the Formula Vee Championship will race on both days. The Vee’s will be the first to tackle the new layout as they kick off proceedings with their qualifying race, which will decide the lower grid positions for the afternoons final. The Patch Fiesta Zetec Championship will return to action with a double header as will the HRCA Historic, while the legends will race three times.

Completing the Saturday programme will be a new class as the Open Endurance Series has its first Mondello Park event. The new Championship is open to all saloon and sports cars and will race over a fifty minute duration complete with pit-stops and driver changes.

Sunday’s programme will see the Fiesta action swap to the ‘The Trailer Company’ ST Championship as they complete their double header, with the saloon action continuing with a combined grid of Irish Touring Cars and ASK Supercars. Single Seaters will make up a larger part of the timetable with Formula Vee being joined by BOSS Ireland and Formula Sheane, while the Irish Strykers Championship will provide the Sportscar action.

Each day of the event will begin with qualifying and Saturday’s first race is scheduled for 11:40. Sunday’s racing kicks off slightly earlier, at 11:00. Admission to either day of the event is €12:50, booked on-line, or €15.00 on the day. Weekend tickets are also available on-line for €20.00 while all under sixteen year old’s are admitted free.
