Mondello Park's 50th anniversary preparations are in full swing as the County Kildare venue gets ready to welcome visitors to its second annual Historic Racing Festival on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of August. The Historic anniversary event will feature the return of the exhilarating sight and sound of Formula One and Formula 5000 power to Mondello Park, with the visit of the Derek Bell Trophy races for Historic Formula 1, Formula 5000, Formula 2 and Formula Atlantic cars. The 2018 Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship reconvenes at Mondello Park this weekend, August 4th & 5th for the latest instalment of the popular race series. With the Leinster Motor Club in charge the event will include races for the Leinster 100 and Leinster 200 trophies which carry some of the biggest names in Irish Motorcycle Racing. Despite picking up his worst finish of the season, fourth in race three, series leader Owen Purcell all but wrapped up the 2018 Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta Zetec Championship title at Mondello Park today, Sunday July 8th. Purcell started the penultimate race weekend of the season knowing that he had the possibility of sealing his first ever Motor Racing Championship success with three strong results. Reigning champion David Maguire was the highest points scorer as the 'The Trailer Company' Fiesta ST Championship completed its second triple header race weekend of the season at Mondello Park today, Sunday July 8th. The championship will now go down to the wire at September's Leinster Trophy event as Maguire's points haul allowed him to close the gap to championship leader Michael Cullen. Annual Charity event to support LauraLynn once again The Irish Formula Vee Association's annual Formula Vee Festival hits Mondello Park on Saturday and Sunday, July 7th & 8th, with its biggest entry since the events' re-introduction in 2012. For the first time in more than a decade the Festival will include visiting drivers from the UK Formula Vee Championship. The annual Charity event which will be run by the County Kildare Motor Club, will once again take place in aid of LauraLynn, Ireland's Children's hospice. Richie Ryan tightened his grip on the Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship with another hat-trick of wins on the Mondello Park National Track over the weekend of June 16th and 17th. The Kilkenny rider was pushed hard by Waterford's Peter Moloney and Ballymena's Luke Johnston but still increased his 2018 tally of Superbike wins to nine. Michael Cullen emerged from rounds six and seven of the 2018 'The Trailer Company' Fiesta ST Championship at Mondello Park today, Sunday June 10th, with an increased championship lead following a pair of action packed races. The 2018 Patch Tyre Equipment fiesta Zetec Championship reached its half way point as the championship raced on the reversed Mondello Park National Track today, Saturday June 9th. The budget saloon racing series served up some quality racing with series leader Owen Purcell made to work hard for two wins which have extended his advantage at the head of the field.
