Richie Ryan tightened his grip on the Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship with another hat-trick of wins on the Mondello Park National Track over the weekend of June 16th and 17th. The Kilkenny rider was pushed hard by Waterford's Peter Moloney and Ballymena's Luke Johnston but still increased his 2018 tally of Superbike wins to nine. Martin Birrane, entrepreneur, racing driver and owner of Peer Group plc and Mondello Park, dies at the age of 82 It is with great sadness that the Birrane family has confirmed the unexpected passing of Martin Birrane. The owner of Peer Group plc and Mondello Park racetrack, Martin died suddenly on Saturday 9th June, at the age of 82. Michael Cullen emerged from rounds six and seven of the 2018 'The Trailer Company' Fiesta ST Championship at Mondello Park today, Sunday June 10th, with an increased championship lead following a pair of action packed races. Racing on the reversed Mondello Park National Track for the first time, the Fiesta ST championship proved to be the highlight of Sunday's programme with Cullen taking his third win of the year and Graham McDonnell taking his first, to make it five different winners from the first seven races of the season. The 2018 Patch Tyre Equipment fiesta Zetec Championship reached its half way point as the championship raced on the reversed Mondello Park National Track today, Saturday June 9th. The budget saloon racing series served up some quality racing with series leader Owen Purcell made to work hard for two wins which have extended his advantage at the head of the field. Purcell started from pole position for race one and had relative newcomer Colin Murray for company in the early laps. The next event of the 2018 Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta Zetec Championship takes competitors to Mondello Park this Saturday June 9th, to race on a new circuit as they tackle the Mondello Park National Track in reverse, the first time this layout has been used since the nineteen nineties. 'The Trailer Company' Fiesta ST Championship returns to Mondello Park this coming Sunday, June 10th, for rounds six and seven of its 2018 schedule, where it will race 'the wrong way around' on the County Kildare Track. The second Mondello Park Car Race event of the 2018 season will have some added spice as drivers tackle the National Track in reverse for the first time in more than twenty years. The Motor Enthusiasts Club will be in charge for the two day event which takes place this coming Saturday and Sunday, June 9th and 10th. Mondello Park will roll back the years on August 18th & 19th as the circuit celebrates it’s 50 year anniversary at the Historic Racing Festival. Richie Ryan made the most of the absence of championship leader Charles Stuart from rounds seven, eight and nine of the Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship, on April 26th & 27th, by taking three wins from three races on the Mondello Park International Track. Stuart suffered and engine blow up during Friday testing leaving the way open for both Ryan and Peter Moloney to overtake him in the championship chase. The third event of the 2018 Dunlop Masters Supersport Championship will offer competitors a new challenge as they race on the Mondello Park International Track layout, which was recently partially resurfaced, for the first time this season.
