The Trailer Company Fiesta ST Championship Returns To Mondello

The Trailer Company Fiesta ST Championship returns to Mondello Park

‘The Trailer Company’ Fiesta ST Championship returns to Mondello Park this coming Sunday, June 10th, for rounds six and seven of its 2018 schedule, where it will race ‘the wrong way around’ on the County Kildare Track.

Having started the season on the Mondello Park National Track in April and then made its debut appearance at Bishopscourt County Down in May, Sunday’s double header will take the series to its third different circuit of the season as it tackles the reversed version of the Mondello Park National Circuit.

For 2018 the Mondello Park promoted Fiesta ST Championship is backed by Limerick based ‘The Trailer Company’, a family run business with a long association with motorsport. As agents for the leading motorsport and commercial trailer manufacturers, ‘Brian James’, they can provide a large range of Motorsport and Car Transport options as well as solutions to trailer needs for many other industries. Their commitment to Irish Motorsport sees ‘The Trailer Company also sponsor a number of competitors including Fiesta Zetec Championship leader Owen Purcell.

This seasons’ Fiesta ST series is proving to be the most competitive yet as the first five races have produced four different winners. The series is led by multiple Irish saloon racing champion Michael Cullen, who is the only driver to have tasted victory twice this season. Cullen is followed in the points by reigning ST champion, David Maguire, and Darragh McMullen, with both having taken a win apiece. The other victory went to inaugural Fiesta Zetec champion John Denning but a non-finish in Bishopscourt has dropped him to fifth in the standings behind Barry-John McHenry.

Going into this weekends pair of races very few of the drivers will have first hand experience of the anti-clockwise version of the Mondello Park National Track. Last used in the nineties, only those drivers with a long history of racing will have raced on it before. This could hand the advantage to the likes of Cullen and Maguire who will begin qualifying knowing what to expect from this very different version of the National Track and if they qualify up front they will be very hard to beat.

The all important qualifying session takes place on Sunday morning and it will decide the grid for the afternoons’ first fifteen minute race. To mix things up for the second race, the first six finishers in race one will have their positions reversed, with the remaining places decided on qualifying times.

The ‘The Trailer Company’ Fiesta ST Championship will continue to be the premier Saloon Racing series at Mondello Park during 2018 and the championships progress can be followed through its facebook page and the Mondello Park web site.
