Irish Rallycross Championship Reveals Six Event Calendar

Irish Rallycross Championship reveals innovative six event calendar

The dates for the 2018 ‘Parts for Cars’ Irish Rallycross Championship have been announced with the growing championship set for a innovative six event calendar. The championship trail will see competitors race on four different tracks as well as completing a pair of two day events for the first time.

2017 saw a return to growth for the Irish Rallycross Championship with entries on the up across all classes. For 2018 the championship organisers aim to build on that growth with some new ideas including a two day April event, which will see Rallycross perform on front of its biggest audience for many years, as it runs run alongside the opening round of the hugely popular Irish Drift Championship (IDC).

Mondello Park will be the venue for the opening round of the ‘Parts for Cars’ backed championship on March 4th, with the traditional Rallycross layout kicking off the season. Round two will take place over two days on an all new track layout, as the championship runs alongside the IDC for the first time. Next up will be the annual ‘Into the West’ trip to Tynagh Co. Galway, before the championship returns to Mondello Park in July for its second two day event of the season. Following the mid summer event, the drivers will take a break before finishing off the season with two more rounds at Mondello Park in October and November. October’s event will run on the reverse version of the Mondello Park Track while the November finale which revert to the traditional layout.

Roddy Greene General Manager of Mondello Park said of the 2018 season; “We are excited about the Irish Rallycross 2018 calendar. We are aiming to build on the success of the 2017 season and want to showcase Irish Rallycross to a new audience, the April combined event will definitely bring rallycross to a new audience and will make for a great weekend for motorsport fans. Irish Rallycross remains one of the most exciting forms of motorsport for spectators and drivers and we except this year to be one to remember.

Rallycross as a spectacle is right up there with the best that Motorsport has to offer and Ireland has a rich history in International Rallycross, with Irish drivers having competed successfully around the world. We believe that Rallycross has the potential to be the biggest motorsport in Ireland within the next few years and we’re happy to be at the forefront of making that potential a reality.”

The 2018 season kicks off at Mondello Park on March 4th with entry forms, regulations and class structure details now available on the brand new IRX website, www.irx.ie.
